Today Kym takes a look at the technology surrounding Super Bowl 50 with Akif Malic and Steve Wilkes.
Sports Colab is an accelerator that helps startups focused on all aspects of sports. This week Kym welcomes founder and CEO Akif Malik into the studio. After learning about his transition from medicine to sports and his attempts to bring the Olympics to Chicago, Akif tells us about his time working with multiple companies for Major League Baseball. Kym and Akif then move on discuss some of the biggest trends at Super Bowl 50 including CrowdOptic video streaming smart glasses and Next Gen Stats which implants sensors into the shoulder pads of football players, tracking running speed, hits and other statistics. Kym also calls up Steve Wilkes, founder and CEO of Striim, a company that uses real time streaming analytics in order to prevent more mishaps from happening during the big game. Steve tells Kym how Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” in 2003 could have been avoided. We also find out about possible issues Steve believes need to be addressed this year and the preventative measures at Levis Stadium that impress him.
