Kyle Ellicott from Wearable World is in studio with Kym today as he announces ten startups that are competing for a spot in their accelerator program
Wearables are the biggest new innovation in mainstream technology since the smartphone. Today we are focused on the explosion of smartwatches, fitness trackers, and other connected devices aimed at making you healthier, more fit and more productive. Internet of things, otherwise known as IoT. It’s basically technology that makes every object smart - even your front door lock of your home. We have with us Kyle Ellicott, co-founder of WearableWorld, which is what’s called an accelerator where they provide the resources startups need to hopefully grow and succeed. it’s fairly capital intensive to start a wearable or internet of things… because it requires hardware. Today, he announces ten startups from around the world who are finalists in the running for a spot in their accelerator program: 1. Tinsel 2. BotFactory - mini 3D printing station for circuits. 4. SmartPlate 5. Notion 8. XactSense 9. Den 10. Lucid VR Other great startups in the Wearables Space, which are semi-finalists in the Extreme Tech Challenge: August: Smart home access products including keyless door entry. You can open your door using your smartphone. Coupled with their connected doorbell which has a camera on it, you can see who’s at your door and speak with them even when you’re not home. Bloom Technologies - They’ve created what I would call the fitbit for pregnancy. You wear it during your third trimester and it tracks your contractions. Expecting moms can also track the ups and downs throughout their entire pregnancy. Captive Media It puts a network of interactive screens in the men’s bathroom where advertisers can create interactive games…the kicker is the sensors they place in the urinals that connect to the monitors —the stream controls the game. MainTool -They are a company that develops watch straps that make any standard watch smart. i love this because while the fitbit may be a novelty…you wear your swiss watch piece forever. Revolar - It’s a personal safety device that you can put on your keychain or attach to your clothing…it connects to your cell phone so when you press it, it connects to the app on your phone which ultimately notifies your family and friends you need help. It also sends your location. Smartplate- It instantly measures what’s on your plate with up to 99% accuracy. It identify, weigh, and analyze your food within seconds. SmartPlate identifies everything from single foods to prepared meals via a side-view picture that's taken from an embedded camera inside the plate. The load sensors weigh the food, and then their app sends both the image and weight data to their proprietary cloud for analysis. Nutritional information is then relayed back to the user’s mobile app. To see more of the coolest wearable and IoT startups showing off their demos, WearableWorld.co is holding their demo day November 19th 6p-9p. Go to www.wearableworld.co for details.
