The Payroll Protection Program was unsuccessful and now small business owners are aching to restart the economy before their doors shut for good. Will keeping the economy closed be more disastrous than reopening under strict guidelines?
The average consumer is getting tired of not being able to visit their favorite local businesses. Small business owners are weighing the effects of keeping the economy shut down vs. proceeding with caution. Though most people are getting their income by safely working from home, the Payroll Protection Program has failed to provide for the businesses currently lacking the income needed to stay afloat. Has the market already found the bottom? Nobody knows how bad this bear market will get. Find out what I’m doing.
Tuesday offered the biggest one day gain in the stock market since 1933 which is just more proof that the biggest up days occur during a bear market. This is another reason you should never try to time the market. Prior to these moves, many small and mid cap stocks had already fallen 75-85% as much as they did during the Great Recession. The economy has come to an abrupt halt. How we work our way out of this situation. Also:

The Feds lowered interest rates to nearly zero to fight coronavirus, but that is only one piece of the puzzle. What is the real crisis going on here?
Ever seen a good guy, bad guy movie where the heroes have to get creative to beat the baddies? That’s exactly what happened when the feds lowered rates to zero to combat COVID-19. Really though, coronavirus isn’t causing a crisis, but rather people’s reactions to it are causing the crisis happening around the world. Rob Black takes over today to discuss market volatility, crafting a recovery and more.

Rate hikes, coronavirus, trade wars and oil prices. Can the market survive the disruption to supply and demand?
A few months ago, rate hikes and the trade war were predicted to cause the next recession, now coronavirus has come around and increased the chances of recession. Financial media loves to make connections that’ll predict the next great recession. Are inverted yield curves a bad omen or just a coincidence?
News headlines are stoking fear by saying that an inverted yield curve have predicts a recession within two years. Two years is an absurdly long time in the financial world and the factors that caused previous inverted yield curves are not causing the yield curve inversions we are seeing today. No one doubts the global slowdown is occurring, but corporations are finding ways to adjust and do business. Also:

Timing the market has never worked, but many people still panicked out after December’s sharp correction. Never let emotions get between you and your portfolio.
It happened. A lot of people panicked out at December’s end when the market correction bottomed out. The market has already bounced back from its miserable December showing, but that doesn’t mean the market can’t get worse. It’s time to review what a normal recession looks like and what to do during one.
Every 5-7 years we typically see a 20% correction, but it had been much longer that that since our last significant correction. The miserable December left many of us feeling horrible even though the S&P 500 ended the year down by only 4.4%. Since then, anybody who sold around Christmas is now kicking themselves as the fast moving market has already bounced back. What should you do if these recessionary trends continue? Three rate hikes are anticipated by year end, but it’s not your mortgage you should fear. Today I explain what really affects your budget following a rate increase.
The Feds are holding their monthly meeting with no rate increases expected this time around. However, three more rate hikes are projected by the end of the year which won’t affect mortgage rates as much as it affects things like credit cards, HELOC’s and anything tied to prime. Also in the news is ISM’s manufacturing report, Feds changing the way they measure inflation and the ECB fighting lackluster growth. Other topics include:

Stock market returns always boil down to revenue and earnings of individual companies. Today I discuss the emotions that drive daily numbers and 2018 expectations.
When prices go up consumer demand goes up and we see inflation. The Federal Reserve fights back by adjusting the lending rates, less money is being lent and put into the economy and we go through a cycle. It’s a pretty simple concept that is all part of expansion and recession. Real market corrections last 3 months minimum and the worst thing you can do is panic, sell and lose money forever. I discuss how credit and inflation cycles affect the 4% withdrawl rule? Rob Black looks for tonight’s speech from Trump and its potential effect on the economy
The 4% rule is largely considered to be the gold standard of the financial industry. So what should your retirement review look like? Later on Rob Black sits in to discuss the slight pull back in the market after a strong February as we await Donald Trump’s speech tonight on the economy. What will investors be listening for? Will he be able to keep his deregulatory promises? Rob also breaks down numbers from the new Case-Shiller home price index and some big problems lying within them.
